President Lee Jae Myung pledged to actively back the opening of new export markets to boost the agricultural industry, following South Korea’ first persimmon shipment to China after 17 years of negotiations.

Writing on social media platform X Saturday, Lee highlighted that Korean persimmons are making their entry into the Chinese market.

Lee said, “Expanding the export footprint beyond Southeast Asia to China creates fresh opportunities for local agricultural communities… Diversifying export destinations helps reduce reliance on specific markets while introducing Korean agricultural products to a broader consumer base.”

In a separate post, Lee shared a message from Busan Mayor Chun Jae-soo noting that foreign credit card spending in the city surpassed 1 trillion won ($733.24 million), expressing strong support for the mayor and local residents.

Emphasizing that Busan must reclaim its status as Korea’s second capital, Lee added that he will back Chun and Busan citizens’ efforts to develop the metropolis into a world-class maritime hub.
